Phoenix Community Church seeks to be an example of God’s love in the wider world. We feel a special calling to give an inclusive welcome to all people including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning community (LGBTQ). We think this church is a pretty special place where people with diverse backgrounds and beliefs can find a spiritual home. We provide a nurturing environment that offers opportunities for spiritual growth, an invitation to belong to a caring community and a chance to use one’s gifts in ministry. For some people Phoenix provides a place to heal and move on from past spiritual wounds, while others feel they have found a spiritual home and decide to become members and get involved with the church’s ministry.
Our History
Phoenix Community Church was founded in 1988 as the first Open and Affirming church in southwest Michigan. In recognition of our 25th anniversary on February 17, 2013 we compiled a short history of the early years of the church, a few additional facts about Phoenix, and several reflections submitted for the anniversary celebration.
